Bean 2 Green Initiative

Juice Promotion Template (Flyer (Landscape)).png

Starting in early 2025 HALS teamed up with a number of local Tasmanian coffee roasters to divert their coffee bean waste from landfill and to return it to Tasmanian soils!

Coffee grounds, husks and chaff are good sources of nitrogen, and other important elements for plants. We are excited for the development of this initiative and will be providing more information in the near future.

Turning coffee waste into soil value

Coffee by-products contain useful organic matter and nutrients, including nitrogen, which supports healthy soil biology. When reused correctly, these materials can contribute to improved soil structure, moisture retention, and long-term soil performance.

For gardeners, growers, and landscapers working across Landscape Hobart, this initiative supports:

  • Reduced organic waste going to landfill

  • Improved soil inputs for gardens and green spaces

  • A locally driven circular economy approach

Bean 2 Green aligns closely with how modern landscape yards operate, supporting environmentally responsible sourcing alongside practical outcomes.

Local partnerships driving the initiative

The success of Bean 2 Green relies on strong collaboration with Tasmanian coffee roasters who share a commitment to sustainability. Current partners include:

  • Zimmah Coffee

  • de Lacey Coffee Roasters

  • Tas Coffee Roasters

  • Cheeky Devil Coffee Roasters

  • Villino Coffee Roasters

By working directly with these local businesses, HALS helps ensure valuable organic material stays within Tasmania and supports local land care.

Supporting sustainable landscaping in Hobart

Bean 2 Green reflects HALS’ broader commitment to sustainable supply practices as one of the trusted landscape suppliers servicing Hobart and southern Tasmania. The initiative complements HALS’ wider range of soils, composts, and soil conditioners available through our landscape yards.
